Oriental Bodywork's Training - 200 Hour Program
Zen Shiatsu
Course Objective: To develop in the student an understanding of Oriental Medical Theory related to Oriental Bodywork, to allow students to develop strategies, to appropriately address the condition of the client, and to enable the student to effectively apply the appropriate techniques using proper body mechanics, with an understanding of the contraindications of the techniques. Students will be prepared to qualify as graduates to assume professional responsibilities as Oriental Bodyworker’s.
Training will last six months and includes one evening class per week and one weekend per month.
CLASS OVERVIEW
ORIENTAL MEDICAL THEORY – 50 HOURS Will include basic terminology, Zen Shiatsu, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Oriental theory of disease, 5 element transformations, traditional & Masunaga meridians, accupoints, and a comparison of oriental & western medical views.
TECHNIQUES AND PRACTICE – 100 HOURS Will include learning to move from the HARA to apply appropriate pressure. Locating meridians and accupoints, positioning client, working with client challenges, developing fluid treatments, and contraindications.
CLINICAL PRACTICE – 30 HOURS Clinical sessions will begin about half way through the course, at the discretion of the instructor. Initial clinical sessions will be with class members alternating in the role of client and practitioner. The student in the role of the practitioner will learn to do client intake and evaluation, and design the appropriate strategy to address your particular client.
BUSINESS/ETHICS – 4 HOURS
QI GONG AND DO-IN EXERCISES – 16 HOURS
TOTAL HOURS = 200; THEORY= 70 Hours + LAB = 130 Hours
All students in this course will be encouraged to satisfy the Anatomy and Physiology requirements either at the school or by providing evidence of equivalent training.
