Staff and Faculty of the Professional School of Massage


David ScottDavid Scott, LMT is the founder and Co-Director of the Professional School of Massage. He graduated with honors from the Florida School of Massage, where he recieved his license. David has twenty years experience as a massage therapist and was trained by Phil and Jim Wharton authors of "The Stretching Book." His special interests are working with athletes and teaching massage as a vehicle for self-discovery.




Beth ScottBeth Scott NCTMB is the Co-Director of the Professional School of Massage and has a private practice at the school. She brings her knowledge and skills as a massage therapist utilizing stone therapy as a means of providing relief to compromised muscles. She has also studied Pregnancy Massage with Carole Osborne-Sheets and brings the sensitivity and special needs of pregnant clients to their session. Beth teaches Swedish, Seated, Pregnancy, Elderly and Stone Massage.




Faculty


Beverly HockBeverly Hock, NCTMB has earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Therapeutic Recreation from West Virginia University. She later went on to earn a Master of Education in Health Education from Temple University. She is a graduate of the Professional School of Massage obtaining her National Certification in 2001. Beverly has 15 years experience working with people with developmental and physical disabilities, as well as, conducting staff training and in-services. Beverly teaches Beginners Anatomy, CPR and the Ethics Classes.



Doreen LaffertyDoreen Lafferty, Occupational Therapist, Registered, Licensed, NCBTMB has had 18+ years experience as an Occupational Therapist. Her special interest in aromatherapy and has studied with many diverse teachers throughout the years and brings this knowledge to our aromatherapy classes. She is a staff massage therapist at the Jefferson-Myrna Brind Center of Integrative Medicine.





Hilde NiewenhuysenHilde Niewenhuysen, is a Certified Shiatsu Practioner. She is a 1994 graduate of the International School of Shiatsu. She brings her significant knowledge of Shiatsu to the Professional School of Massage's Shiatsu classes.






Barbara PannoBarbara Panno, NCTMB is a graduate of the Professional School of Massage and is on staff as our Reflexology Instructor. She has a successful practice and has adapted her practice to focus on women's health issues. She studied reflexology under the direction of Donna Craeger at the Professional School of Massage and pursued additional studies with the Ingraham Method of Relexology. Barbara's understanding of the correlation between the body and the feet combined with an easy, knowledgable way of instructing gives our students the basic understanding of reflexology sessions.


Valerie HartmanValerie Hartman, RN, CHPN, CMT, CR joins the Professional School of Massage as a Hospice & palliative care nurse educator. She has spent 18 years working with the dying as a holistic inpatient & home hospice nurse, integrating & adapting techniques used in massage therapy and reflexology in her care giving. She is a member of the National Hospice & Palliative Care Organization, serving on a committee that is developing guidelines for the professional use and integration of allied therapies like massage, art, music, etc. She currently is employed by Holy Redeemer Home Health & Hospice Services.



No ImageSusan Stone, M.Ed., NCTMB is our Cranial Sacral instructor, she has had 31 years of teaching and a Masters Degree in Health and Physical Education. She was certified in Swedish Massage in 1980 and also studies therapeutic touch, reflexology, Reiki, One Brain and accupressure along with her CranialSacral studies.





Lou Ellen CarsonLou Ellen Carson has been doing massage for 17 years. She has extensive advanced study in Neuromuscular Therapy, Sports Massage, and Myofascial Release. With an eclectic approach, she combines her techniques to restore ease of movement & effortless posture, by releasing "tension patterns" held unconsciously by the body, eliminating myofascial adhesions, and restoring balance to muscles. She has been teaching anatomy, physiology and sports massage in the Philadelphia area for 12 years. Lou Ellen teaches the Advanced A&P class.




No ImageLinda Crocker CMT is a Certified Massage Therapist who works in a spa and brings her enthusiasm and knowledge of products, scrubs and exfoliation the the Spa Therapies class.







Dr Eric KonigDr. Eric Konig is a Doctor of Chiropractic in both PA and NJ, as well as, a Certified Massage Therapist and Fitness Trainer. Eric brings his combined training and abundant knowledge of the body's movement to his classes.






Joseph LevineJoseph Levine, CMT received his certification in Tui Na from the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine and continued his training in China studying with several Tui Na professionals. Today, he focuses his private practice on the post-traumatic and sports injured clients using Tui Na, herbal therapy and Chi Kung.





Martha FertmanMartha Fertman is a certified instructor of the Alexander and teaches our movement classes.








Adjunct Faculty


Ben Benjamin holds a Ph.D. in Sports Medicine and is the Founder and President of the Muscular Therapy Institute in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He studied with Dr. james Cyriax, the "father of orthopedic medicine," and has applied his insights to the healing of common soft tissue injuries through skilled massage therapy.  Recipient of numerous awards, including the AMTA's President's Award. Dr Benjamin is the author of many articles on working with injuries, as well as, the widely used books in the field, "Listen to Your Pain," "Are You Tense?" and "Exercise Without Injury." He has been in private practice for over 40 years and teaches extensively throughout the country.



Doreen Reardon is a Nationally Certified Massage Therapist in business for 6 beautiful years with a thriving massage practice with two-legged and four-legged clients. She is a supporter of animal sanctuaries nationwide and is a single mother of a sensational cat.
